Do you have collectibles, furniture, sentimental items, or family heirlooms you thought you’d pass to the next generation, but younger family members have other ideas? Are you part of the younger generation who would like to preserve family relationships, but perhaps not the “stuff” of generations past? What do we do with all of this STUFF that might not have a forever home?
In this program, we’d like to explore what to do when nobody wants your stuff. What are your options for donation, resale, or giving it to a museum? What are museums looking for when they collect? What truly has resale value right now? What’s most useful for thrift and donations centers and organizations that serve those in need? And what are your other options—from the Buy Nothing Movement to trash and recycling.
Most importantly, we’ll consider how to peace between the generations when heirlooms are not welcome, or when feelings of guilt and obligation motivate us to keep things we would prefer not to have.
In this panel-style program, we’ll explore all of these topics with ample time for questions and breaks. Refreshments and lunch are also provided. Attendees will also receive a resource packet with information from our presenters.
