Adult Lecture Series: Juneteenth

June 26 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Join us for a thought-provoking lecture as part of Wenham Museums Adult Lecture Series!

On Friday, June 26 at noon, the Wenham Museum welcomes Nicole McClain, founder of the North Shore Juneteenth Association, veteran, educator, community leader, and the first Black woman elected to public office in Lynn, for an engaging and thought-provoking
conversation about the meaning, history, and continued importance of Juneteenth.

Rooted in service, resilience, and a deep love for her community, Nicole’s journey has taken her from serving overseas in the U.S. Army National Guard to becoming
a small business owner, youth advocate, and leader dedicated to building stronger, more connected communities across the North Shore.

Through storytelling, history, and reflection, Nicole will explore the historical roots of the Juneteenth holiday, the traditions and cultural practices connected to its celebration, and why this holiday deserves recognition as a defining part of American history. Guests will also learn about the story behind the Black National Anthem, Lift Every Voice and Sing, and its lasting significance within Black American culture and the ongoing pursuit of freedom, resilience, and collective progress.

The presentation will also share the inspiring 10-year journey of the North Shore Juneteenth Association, from its grassroots beginnings to becoming a driving
force for education, cultural programming, and community connection throughout the region.

Join us as we deepen our understanding of Juneteenth, celebrate the power of community, and honor the generations whose struggles and triumphs helped shape our nation.
