Trolley Diner

Who doesn’t love a diner? Nancy filled this one with everything you might need or want for a fantastic breakfast or lunch. Inside are freshly poured cups of coffee, burgers, fries, and all-day breakfast, just waiting for customers. For this piece, Nancy used a building made by Jim Ganz, but she painted and furnished it.

As with all her work, the story is told with the details, and here Nancy supplies them all, even menus – you can almost hear the ice cubes tinkling in the soda glasses.

Just as she did with the Wenham Lake Lunch Shack, Nancy gave us a smorgasbord for our imaginations. This diner probably makes the best pancakes and frappes (aka “milkshakes,” for those outside of Massachusetts) on the East Coast!

Seen here lit up from within (Nancy electrified many of her miniatures), and as it looks in daylight, this diner is a classic trolley-turned-diner, just as you’ll find all over New England.

When viewed through its windows, with the glass covered in advertisements, it truly feels like the real thing.

And looking at the prep counter from inside the diner, it’s clear that no detail was too small , right down to the hamburger buns.
