Rooftop Studio, 2002

The artist who works in this roof-top studio is going to do great things! Nancy created a space that any starving artist would love – complete with easel, paint-stained rags, brushes, bottles of paint, and a few completed works hanging on the wall.

Typical of all her work, this piece gives the impression that the artist will return at any moment to pick up their brushes again.

Nancy’s beloved cats almost always found their way into her miniature creations, just as they found their way into all sorts of things in her real home. She included a portrait of one of her cats on the back wall of this studio; the animal figures themselves were made by Karen Brent.

In addition, although Nancy was also a gifted painter, she often used other artists’ pieces in her miniature vignettes, and the paintings that help complete the illusion here were made by Gloria Soberin, Carol Crane, and Jill Renee Marquis.

The façade of the room box feels so real, but the details within truly bring it to life. Here, the interior of the artist’s studio shows us the artist’s slightly messy workspace.
