DESCRIPTION:The Hamilton Wenham Garden Club Junior’s Program is looking for children ages 8+ who may have an interest in gardening!  Come join us as we prepare for the planting of the raised garden beds located at the entrance to the Wenham Museum. \nThe program will involve the selection of plant material (vegetables\, herbs\, and flowers) as well as the discussion of seed growth and plant placement in the raised beds. Planting of the garden beds to take place the first week in June. \nThere is no charge to attend this meeting\, but if you wish to enjoy the museum galleries before or after\, please check in with your membership at Visitor Services or please pay museum admission.

DESCRIPTION:Pysanky\, a Ukrainian Easter egg\, is a traditional folk art that\, according to legend\, prevent bad things from happening in the world… as long as enough are made! In this workshop you will learn to make these intricately decorated eggs using the wax-resist method of dying. \nThis workshop is for older artists (age 12 – adult) who will use a candle to melt wax and a special tool\, called a kitska\, to decorate the eggs. SUMMARY:NEW EXHIBIT: Pysanky for Peace
DESCRIPTION:The museum’s newest exhibition\, Pysanky for Peace\, opens on this date in the Egbert Gallery. \nAbout the Exhibit\nOne legend of the Ukrainian people living in the Carpathian Mountains tells us that pysanky (elaborately decorated Easter eggs) must be created each year. If they aren’t\, the chains that hold evil in check will loosen\, and it will be free to wander\, causing havoc in the world. As long as enough pysanky are made\, the chains will tighten and good will triumph for another year. \nThe Wenham Museum’s exhibit features 50 of these wonderfully decorated eggs\, hand-made by artisans from around the world\, in support of the Pysanky for Peace Project\, which aims to raise funds to aid the ongoing humanitarian efforts in Ukraine. In lieu of an exhibit fee for this traveling display\, the museum has made a donation to the non-profit organization Razom (which means “together” in Ukrainian)\, which is supplying critically needed medical supplies to the people of Ukraine. \nWe are doing what we can to support those suffering in this crisis. If you are able\, please donate to Razom by going directly to their website. You will also find a donation box in the exhibit gallery (the museum will ensure that the funds go to Razom). \nYou can learn more about the Pysanky for Peace Project online. \n

DESCRIPTION:Seventy years ago\, soldiers who survived World War II returned home to pick up the pieces of their lives. Second Lieutenant Robert Kurtz was one of these men. Fewer than ten years later\, he died unexpectedly\, leaving behind a wife and four young sons. The youngest\, Jim\, would have no memories of his father\, and it left a huge gap in his life\, compelling him to search for the identity of the man he only knew from a few family pictures and overheard family conversations. It would take him more than fifty years to learn essential details about this devoted father and husband…and unexpected hero. \nThe resulting narrative is a unique blend of memoir and biography. Jim Kurtz weaves together his search with an emerging picture of his father’s life\, vividly telling a story that is war chronicle\, romance\, mystery\, and personal reflection. DESCRIPTION:COMMEMORATE NATIONAL VIETNAM WAR VETERANS DAY ON MARCH 29\, 2022 BY TOURING THE PATTON FAMILY ARCHIVES \nThe Patton Family Archives chronicle the life and legacy of one of America’s premier military families who resided here on Boston’s North Shore. The Archives are also an untapped\, unparalleled resource regarding the service and sacrifice of Maj. Gen. Patton and his troops during the Korean and Vietnam Wars and that of his wife\, Joanne Holbrook Patton\, on the home front. \nGuided tours are offered at select dates and times and are available only by advanced online reservation through the Wenham Museum. Tours are approximately 90 minutes in length and include time for questions. Payment is required at the time of booking. \nTours are $15.00 for members of the Wenham Museum and $20.00 for nonmembers.  Tour tickets also and include General Admission to the museum’s main location at 132 Main Street\, Wenham\, Massachusetts. \nGroups\nGroup tours are available for parties of 6 or more on a mutually agreeable date at time. We kindly ask for two weeks lead time for scheduling groups. Please contact the museum at info@wenhammuseum.org or (978) 468-2377\, ext. 113 to inquire. \nParking & Accessibility\nPublic parking is available in gravel lot located next to the Homestead. There is an incline to walk from the parking lot to the Homestead. We regret that at this time\, the Archives and the Homestead are not fully handicapped accessible. Restrooms are available within the Homestead. \nTour Location\nPaton Family Archives\nPatton Homestead\n650 Asbury Street\, Hamilton\, MA \nThe Wenham Museum owns and operates the Patton Family Archives. The museum leases space within the Patton Homestead to display the Archives. \nInclement Weather\nPlease be aware that in the event of inclement weather\, the tours may be cancelled and rescheduled for a later date.
