DESCRIPTION:Seventy years ago\, soldiers who survived World War II returned home to pick up the pieces of their lives. Second Lieutenant Robert Kurtz was one of these men. Fewer than ten years later\, he died unexpectedly\, leaving behind a wife and four young sons. The youngest\, Jim\, would have no memories of his father\, and it left a huge gap in his life\, compelling him to search for the identity of the man he only knew from a few family pictures and overheard family conversations. It would take him more than fifty years to learn essential details about this devoted father and husband…and unexpected hero. \nThe resulting narrative is a unique blend of memoir and biography. Jim Kurtz weaves together his search with an emerging picture of his father’s life\, vividly telling a story that is war chronicle\, romance\, mystery\, and personal reflection. And it all started when an eight-year old boy climbed some attic stairs to open a forbidden green box. \nThe program will take place at the Wenham Museum’s Patton Family Archives located in the Patton Homestead\, 650 Asbury Street\, Hamilton\, Mass.  Signed books will be available for purchase. \nTickets\n$20 Nonmembers\n$15 Members\, Seniors (65+)\, Military & Veterans \nParking & Accessibility\nPublic parking is available in gravel lot located next to the Homestead. The Archives are also an untapped\, unparalleled resource regarding the service and sacrifice of Maj. Gen. Patton and his troops during the Korean and Vietnam Wars and that of his wife\, Joanne Holbrook Patton\, on the home front. \nGuided tours are offered at select dates and times and are available only by advanced online reservation through the Wenham Museum. Tours are approximately 90 minutes in length and include time for questions. Payment is required at the time of booking. \nTours are $15.00 for members of the Wenham Museum and $20.00 for nonmembers.  Tour tickets also and include General Admission to the museum’s main location at 132 Main Street\, Wenham\, Massachusetts. \nGroups\nGroup tours are available for parties of 6 or more on a mutually agreeable date at time. We kindly ask for two weeks lead time for scheduling groups. SUMMARY:Sarah Good: Wenham in the Witch Trials
DESCRIPTION:Did you know that one of the first people executed for witchcraft in Salem in 1692 was born and raised in Wenham? Or that three of the jurors lived in Wenham? Or that Rev. John Hale of Beverly – one of the most ardent supporters of the trials – began to change his mind about witchcraft because of something that happened in the historic house now owned by the Wenham Museum? \nDuring Women’s History Month\, the Wenham Museum wishes to acknowledge the sad but fascinating story of Wenham native Sarah Solart Poole Good\, and the other victims of the witch hysteria\, most of whom were women. The museum’s Exhibitions Curator and Manager\, Jane Bowers\, will discuss Sarah Solart Poole Good\, Reverend Joseph Gerrish\, and the Witch Hysteria of 1692 at this “Lunch & Learn” presentation. \nBring your own brown bag lunch to this talk\, and the museum will provide beverages and dessert. At present\, museum policy requires masks within the museum but they may be removed while you are eating your lunch during this program. DESCRIPTION:COMMEMORATE NATIONAL VIETNAM WAR VETERANS DAY ON MARCH 29\, 2022 BY TOURING THE PATTON FAMILY ARCHIVES \nThe Patton Family Archives chronicle the life and legacy of one of America’s premier military families who resided here on Boston’s North Shore. The Archives are also an untapped\, unparalleled resource regarding the service and sacrifice of Maj. Gen. Patton and his troops during the Korean and Vietnam Wars and that of his wife\, Joanne Holbrook Patton\, on the home front. \nGuided tours are offered at select dates and times and are available only by advanced online reservation through the Wenham Museum. Tours are approximately 90 minutes in length and include time for questions. Payment is required at the time of booking. \nTours are $15.00 for members of the Wenham Museum and $20.00 for nonmembers.  Tour tickets also and include General Admission to the museum’s main location at 132 Main Street\, Wenham\, Massachusetts. \nGroups\nGroup tours are available for parties of 6 or more on a mutually agreeable date at time. We kindly ask for two weeks lead time for scheduling groups. Please contact the museum at info@wenhammuseum.org or (978) 468-2377\, ext. 113 to inquire. \nParking & Accessibility\nPublic parking is available in gravel lot located next to the Homestead. There is an incline to walk from the parking lot to the Homestead. We regret that at this time\, the Archives and the Homestead are not fully handicapped accessible. Restrooms are available within the Homestead. \nTour Location\nPaton Family Archives\nPatton Homestead\n650 Asbury Street\, Hamilton\, MA \nThe Wenham Museum owns and operates the Patton Family Archives. The museum leases space within the Patton Homestead to display the Archives. \nInclement Weather\nPlease be aware that in the event of inclement weather\, the tours may be cancelled and rescheduled for a later date.
