SUMMARY:Brown Bag Lunch: Set at Liberty
DESCRIPTION:Our January Brown Bag Lunch program is the first in a two-part series regarding the history of enslaved people on the North Shore.  This month\, we welcome Abby Battis\, Associate Director for Collections\, from Historic Beverly. \nRemarkably\, some of the stories of Beverly’s black population have been preserved and can be found at Historic Beverly. These are stories of citizens\, black and white\, battling against the unjust system of slavery; of enslaved men fighting for freedom for our nation\, though not free themselves; of a woman using the law to emancipate her family; and of the racism that affected the lives of Beverly’s black population long after they were freed from bondage. A few of these stories can be found in Historic Beverly’s online exhibit\, “Set at Liberty: the stories of Enslaved in a small New England Town”. This exhibit presents these accounts using the archives of the Historic Beverly collection. Ms. Battis will discuss the content found in the exhibit and in the collection at Historic Beverly as well as\, how the exhibit was created. \nIn February\, we will learn about the history of an enslaved family in Wenham.  The original research into this topic will be presented by Hamilton native\, Jamey Tanzer. \nAbout the Brown Bag Lunch Series\nJoin us the 3rd Thursday of every month to learn about local history and culture.  Bring your own “brown bag lunch” and beverages and dessert will be provided by the museum. \nTo participate via Zoom\, please register online using the “Buy Tickets” button below.  If you plan to attend in person\, you may register in advance or drop-in on the day of the program. \nThank You to Our Sponsor\nThis program series is sponsored by the Institution for Savings. \n \n  \nPROGRAM DETAILS\n3rd Thursday of the Month\n12 – 1 p.m.\n$10 Suggested Donation

SUMMARY:M is for Museum & Poppets Playdates
DESCRIPTION:Join in this month’s M is for Museum and Poppets Playdates program at the Wenham Museum! \nOur Poppets friends will read So Much Snow by Kristen Schroeder (Author)\, Sarah Jacoby (Illustrator). This illustrated story is a rollicking read-aloud about forest animals who are caught—literally up to their ears and antlers—in a snowstorm. \nFollowing the story\, children will work in small groups in a shared hands-on exploration transforming common materials into SNOW. \nOur M is for Museum friends will read The Hat by Jan Brett. In this follow up story to The Mitten\, Lisa’s woolen stocking flies off the clothesline. Hedgie finds it and pokes his nose in. He tries to pull it out\, but the stocking gets stuck on his prickles — and the fun begins. \nFollowing the story\, children will sculpt colorful hedgehogs to take home. \nThese programs have been designed to address Massachusetts curriculum standards for Pre-K in Earth\, Physical and Life Sciences\, Reading and Literature\, Creating in Visual Art\, Personal and Social Development and Peer Relationships. \nPROGRAM DETAILS\n2nd Friday of the Month\n9:30 a.m. ages 18 months-2.9 years\n10:30 a.m. ages 2.9 years+\nIncluded with Admission\nFree for Members\nFree for Residents of Hamilton\, Wenham\, Manchester & Essex with advanced registration through Early Childhood Partners >> \nSponsored by Early Childhood Partners
