SUMMARY:Brown Bag Lunch: Shipwrecks & the USS NH
DESCRIPTION:This month\, we welcome Cape Ann resident and scuba diver Norman “Dugie” Russell.  Dugie has explored many sunken shipwrecks located off North Shore and Cape Ann\, with the U.S.S. New Hampshire being one of the most significant. The U.S.S. New Hampshire was one of the last of the United States’ 74-gun warships\, built in 1814 and designed by the same designer of the U.S.S. Constitution. \nThe U.S.S. New Hampshire sank in 1922 near Graves Island in Manchester-by-the-Sea. During his dives to the wreckage\, Dugie recovered 4 tons of gorgeous\, nearly petrified marbleized timber and striking copper and brass fittings forged by Paul Revere & Sons in the early 1800s. \nJoin us as we learn about this history of this sunken ship and hear Dugie’s first-person account of diving and salvaging from this historic wreckage. \nDugie was one of the original founders of the Essex County Sherriff’s Search and Recovery Dive Team and is a retired court officer from the Massachusetts’ court system. \nTo participate via Zoom\, please register online using the “Buy Tickets” button below.  If you plan to attend in person\, you may register in advance or drop-in on the day of the program. \nThank You to Our Sponsor\nThis program series is sponsored by the Institution for Savings. \n \nAbout the Brown Bag Lunch Series\nJoin us the 3rd Thursday of every month to learn about local history and culture.  Bring your own “brown bag lunch” and beverages and dessert will be provided by the museum. \nPROGRAM DETAILS\n3rd Thursday of the Month\n12 – 1 p.m.\n$10 Suggested Donation
